The Waipara Valley is the fastest growing wine region in New Zealand with around 79 vineyards covering more than 1200 hectares of plantings.

There are over 29 wineries in the valley, many open for tastings and cellar door sales. There is also a selection of award winning restaurants and cafes to visit and enjoy fine food and relaxed ambience with your wine.

The Waipara Valley’s microclimate affords ideal conditions for growing premium quality grapes for the production of award winning wines. The surrounding Teviotdale hills provide protection from the cool eastery winds and welcome the warm northwest winds. The valley’s terroir combined with the long hot autumn period helps produce unique rich, spicy Pinot Noirs and Rieslings – regional specialties.

The diversity in the region makes a tour of the wineries a discovery and pleasure. Several local operators provide wine tours around the wineries.
